Juan Miguel Rivera
Juan Miguel Rivera serves as IJM’s Regional President for Latin America. Juan Miguel began his journey with IJM in 2016 as Regional Security Manager, based in Guatemala City. In 2017, he relocated to San Salvador, El Salvador, where he led IJM’s assessment of how its model could address the country’s high rates of violence. His leadership resulted in the opening of IJM’s El Salvador office, which has since become a trusted partner in transforming the nation’s citizen security and justice systems.
In 2022, Juan Miguel returned to Guatemala to serve as Regional Vice President for the Northern Triangle Region, overseeing IJM’s work in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. During his tenure, he has become a recognized leader in combating violence against women and children, while fostering strategic partnerships with justice institutions and launching innovative projects to address violence.
Before joining IJM, Juan Miguel worked with international organizations such as Transparency International, Action for Peace, Child Fund, and Peace Corps, focusing on citizenship engagement, citizen security, and community development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Rafael Landivar University, a master’s degree in Development from Universidad Católica de Murcia, Spain, and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Universidad de Salamanca, Spain.
Juan Miguel and his wife, Veronica, live in Guatemala City with their three children.
