Stories of Hope:
A Survivor's Welcome Home

This is Mawuli’s* joyful reunion with his mother just a few days before Christmas in 2021, described by our Ghana Aftercare team as “all joy and happiness.”

Rescued from the fishing industry in April 2019, Mawuli was cared for at a shelter while his family was traced, and while the court case against the perpetrators was heard.

The white powder his mother pours on Mawuli is a common welcome home celebration, symbolizing peace and happiness – which have been restored to this family through support from IJM, its partners and its donors.
