You’re standing with Joy* until all are free
Time and time again, you show us how seriously you take our collective declaration of ‘until all are free.’
When we first shared Joy’s* story of online sexual exploitation in the Philippines, and the unimaginable pain that came with it, we also shared her call for you:
“We need more people in the fight to end slavery. We need you. Slavery is happening all around the world. I want it to stop. I believe it can stop, but I cannot do it alone. Will you stand up right now if you want to end slavery with me?”
We saw the way you stood with her, and we hope you know how much your participation helps to fight slavery and support survivors.
After Joy’s rescue, she was set up with a personalized aftercare plan alongside her IJM team, which involved group and individual therapy and continuing her education.
Today, with support from generous people like you, she works with her legal team to testify against the perpetrator. She helps other survivors in her job as a social worker. And she travels the world to stand before global leaders to press for action in stopping online sexual exploitation of children.
Because generous, loving people like you keep walking with us, we are able to send rescue and share this kind of aftercare and legal support with more children like Joy, along with her message:
“To other children who are trapped in slavery right now: please don’t forget that there are people who are willing to help. I wish to see you become strong and brave like me.”
When Joy asked who would stand with her to end slavery, you answered - and you weren’t alone. Together with thousands of compassionate supporters, your giving at the end of 2024 funded 78 rescue operations. Each operation represents another person who, like Joy, will hear the message that help is coming.
Thank you for all you do to help us rescue and restore children like Joy! Our collective work is not in vain, and we’re seeing progress in the fight against slavery.
