IJM Bolivia Cases Progress at ‘Rapid Pace’ Following New Law
Thanks to a new law, IJM Bolivia has seen "miraculous” developments in the past eight months, according to Greg Tarrant, IJM Bolivia field office director. The Law to "Decongest and Effectivise” Criminal Procedures stole the media spotlight when passed at the end of October 2014, but only time could be the judge of its effectiveness. Law 586 (as it is also known) is a recognition by the Bolivian parliament of the frailties of the justice system and an emphatic statement of the authorities’ commitment to improving justice for all. -

Life Sentencing for American Expat Sends Strong Message to Sex Offenders Overseas
An American expat will spend the rest of his life behind bars for child sexual abuse crimes committed in the Philippines. A Los Angeles federal court handed down the life imprisonment sentence on Monday, May 18, following a lengthy, eight-year battle in the courts to prosecute Stanley Reczko under the PROTECT Act. The PROTECT Act criminalizes sexual abuse of children by a U.S. citizen in a foreign country. -

Child Abuse Perpetrator Simon Harris Sentenced to 17 Years in Prison
Justice has been served in a child abuse case that affected a large number of Kenyan children. In December, we posted about the guilty verdict in the case of Simon Harris, a British charity director who abused numerous Kenyan street children over an 18-year period. On Thursday, February 26, Harris was sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison, a very strong sentence under the UK criminal justice system that will ensure he will abuse and exploit no more. -
