CEBU, PHILIPPINES – A heavy chain today locks the doors of the Red Lips bikini bar in Cebu, Philippines. The bar was permanently shut down last week. Just a few weeks ago, as American families sat down to their Thanksgiving meal, officials halfway around the world gave thanks for shutting down a bar that trafficked girls and women in Cebu, Philippines. IJM had assisted with the original rescue operation, and staff were on-site for the momentous occasion. -

MUMBAI, INDIA – Four girls as young as 10 were rescued last week from a moving train headed hundreds of miles away from their home to Mumbai. Police and IJM staff flooded busy train platforms to rescue the girls. They worked together in close collaboration with other NGOs and government operations to pull off the rescue operation. -

Michael Refalo, a 61-year-old Australian national, is now behind bars, arrested on two charges of human trafficking by Philippine authorities. The May 13 arrest follows an extensive investigation which uncovered the abuse and exploitation of 14 girls, including 10 suspected minors, over the last three to four years. -

New Study Finds Significant Decrease in Children in Cambodia’s Commercial Sex Industry
A new prevalence study conducted by International Justice Mission (IJM) reveals that Cambodia - once "ground zero" for the unrestrained commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) - has experienced a significant decrease in the prevalence of minors available in commercial sex establishments in three of the largest markets in the nation. In the early 2000's, estimates of the prevalence of CSEC in Cambodia ranged from 15%-30%. Today, thanks to international attention and investment, along with a strong commitment by Cambodian government officials, prevalence of minors in the commercial sex trade in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville has dropped to 2.2% with minors 15 years and younger making up just 0.1% of the sex industry.
