Freedom Sunday

Dedicate one Sunday at your church to end slavery, human trafficking and violence.

Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow. -Isaiah 1:17

We invite Canadian churches to join the global movement of Freedom Sunday. Bring your influence, prayers and resources to help send rescue and freedom to every child, woman and man trapped in violence.

When the church moves, it brings transformation. We want to help Christians embrace their identity as the hands and feet of Jesus. Hear an inspiring story from a pastor who brought Freedom Sunday to his church.

“We participated in Freedom Sunday in 2018 and the results were remarkable. Our kids learned about modern slavery and came up with the idea to have a bake sale to help set a family free from slavery. A week later, they were blown away when they raised $761 to help bring freedom to a family. We’re not a big church, but the courageous imagination of our kids taught us that everyone can participate in bringing God’s justice to bear in the world! We’ve invited several other local churches to participate in Freedom Sunday this year. Who knows what we can accomplish together?”

Joyce Rees Pastor at Epic Vineyard Church (Calgary, AB)

“It was enlivening to join with others around the world to participate in the IJM Freedom Sunday. Having one day to clearly focus on the issue of slavery and what IJM is doing in response brought a fresh understanding and motivation to support the incredible work that is being done. The video and printed resources were well done and very helpful to facilitate a meaningful and challenging service. We look forward to doing this again!”

Laura Nelson Senior Pastor at Olivet Baptist Church (New Westminster, BC)

"As we (the church) follow the way of Jesus we increasingly discover His heart and burden for justice. Justice is both reparations of relationship and punishment for wrong done. Jesus accomplishes both for us on the cross reconciling us to God by taking the punishment of our sin on himself. This is a message we need to hear every week and Freedom Sunday is a way for us to apply the gospel practically as we join with other churches around the world praying for God’s kingdom and will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Matt Naismith Pastor of Teaching & Vision, Church of the City (Guelph, ON)

Thousands of churches around the world are participating in Freedom Sunday. Is yours?
