IJM Canada Welcomes New Board Members

April 20, 2018 - IJM Canada is proud to announce the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Leigh Schumann, Wayne Alguire, and Kelly Semkiw.

"I'm delighted to see how the Board of Directors of IJM Canada is renewing itself by adding new members,” says Ed Wilson, IJM Canada’s Executive Director. "These new members have been thoughtfully selected, and each one carries a deep commitment to the success of IJM's mission."

The new board members bring diversity and a wealth of experience to advance IJM’s work.

Leigh Schumann
Leigh Schumann has a background in fundraising and global experience in not-for-profit communications. In 2015, she transitioned into her current role as a Principal at the consulting firm, Fawkes and Holly. "I believe that the work IJM is doing is the real-life application of the Gospel,” Schumann stated. "My hope for IJM Canada is that it will continue to build more capacity through funding, leadership and expertise.”

Wayne Alguire
Wayne Alguire lent his expertise for over 20 years to the corporate and education sectors before transitioning into not-for-profit leadership, first with the Willow Creek Association and, more recently, as senior pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna, BC. "There is far too much darkness in our world,” Alguire says. "IJM is a bright and shining light of hope.” Regarding the future of the organization, Alguire hopes IJM Canada will, "raise awareness and unimagined resources from coast to coast in support of achieving or exceeding its targets.”

Kelly Semkiw
Since graduating from University of Toronto, Kelly Semkiw has relentlessly pursued her career in not-for-profit development in both Canada and the United States. "I have been praying for IJM Canada for many years,” Semkiw said. "My role on the board of directors is the beginning of a new and exciting level of involvement.” Semkiw currently works as a consultant for not-for-profits who want to increase their impact.

International Justice Mission Canada is part of a global organization that works in 17 communities around the world to rescue victims of injustice, hold perpetrators accountable, restore survivors and transform public justice systems. Globally, IJM has relieved over 45,000 people from violence and slavery.
