Fundraising Information
IJM Canada is grateful for the generosity of Canadians contributing to the work of justice. If you are fundraising for IJM Canada, there are some important things to keep in mind.
-
To ensure we remain in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements, IJM Canada adheres to strict policies when issuing tax receipts. If you are collecting funds on behalf of IJM Canada, you should be aware of these policies and communicate them clearly to donors.
-
If your event involves the sale of goods, services or tickets, IJM Canada cannot issue donation receipts for these items. Donation receipts can only be issued for free will gifts for which the donor does not receive any benefit in return. If your fundraiser involves both sales and donations, please ensure that the funds for sales are kept separate from donations. Furthermore, please ensure that each group of funds is separately reconciled and submitted to IJM Canada.
-
We require the complete name and address of the donor in order to issue a tax receipt. Without this information, we will be unable to issue a tax receipt.
-
Tax receipts are only issued for donations of $15 or more.
-
If multiple people will be collecting funds (e.g. youth group, class of students), IJM Canada uses a collection form for this purpose. If you want to modify the form, it must be approved by IJM Canada’s Public Engagement Coordinator before use. Without prior approval, we cannot guarantee that donors will be receipted. For further details, please contact engage@ijm.ca
-
Please ensure that funds collected are submitted to IJM Canada in a timely manner. Individuals who have written cheques payable to IJM Canada will want them deposited quickly. Also, if your event is happening in December, please submit your funds to IJM Canada before the end of the calendar year; this ensures donation receipts can be issued in the proper year. Envelopes must be postmarked no later than December 31 in order for donation receipts to be issued for that year. If you are submitting a large amount of funds, you may also want to courier the items to IJM Canada for added security. You can find IJM Canada’s mailing address here.
-
You may be soliciting goods or services (e.g. door prizes, event supplies) from businesses or individuals in order to run your event. IJM Canada cannot issue donation receipts for these items since IJM Canada is not organizing or overseeing the event.
-
If donors want to give directly to IJM Canada, donations can be made online at http://www.ijm.ca/givetoday. Donations can also be mailed directly to: IJM Canada, PO Box 336, Stn B, London, ON N6A 4W1.
