Ideas for Fundraising
Events
-
Sporting Events: Run, bike, paddle, or even climb for the work of justice by having your friends and family support you for each mile. Or organize a tournament and have the entry fees benefit IJM Canada.
-
Dinners: Host a dinner and invite your friends to learn about IJM and get personally involved by donating their resources to help the oppressed.
-
Book Clubs: Read Just Courage, Good News About Injustice or Terrify No More and set a financial goal for your group to raise.
-
Other Events: Use your creative talents and interests to support IJM Canada through a fun event. Hold an auction, concert, film festival, yard sale, car wash, lemonade stand, play, or come up with a new, exciting idea that allows you to use your own gifts for this work.
Youth
-
Loose Change to Loosen Chains: Most families have a lot of loose change sitting around their homes. Appeal to families in your church and community to donate this money to help loosen the chains of slavery. Read more about Loose Change to Loosen Chains.
Businesses
-
Donate a percentage of your sales to IJM Canada: This is a great way to educate your customers about the work of IJM while raising support. In accordance with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) guidelines, you must clearly list the percentage of all sales that will be donated to IJM Canada. Your company will be given a tax deductible receipt for the proceeds sent to IJM Canada. Customers will not be receipted by IJM Canada.
-
Matching Gifts: Implement a matching gift program for your company to match gifts that employees give to IJM Canada.

The Ride to End Terror
Nathan and Corey with their support team.
Nathan Weselake, a pastor at Portage Alliance Church in Portage la Prairie, MB, didn’t want to just simply ride one of the world’s most wild and rugged mountain bike races; he wanted to use that ride to change the world.
So, in August 2008, when Nathan and his good friend Corey Smith rode the Transrockies Challenge, they did it to raise funds for IJM Canada. Six hundred kilometers and $36,000 later, Nathan conquered both the mountains and his fundraising goal.
“My heart was aching for some of these stories of under-age prostitution from Cambodia, and when I found out there was actually this organization that was combating these injustices with effectiveness, it was just amazing,” says Nathan. His commitment to IJM led to a trip to Bolivia to see IJM in action. “Having seen how the systems that perpetuate oppression are actually being dismantled through the work of IJM, I’m an even bigger supporter. The ripple effect of IJM is that almost every other Christian work going on is more effective.”
